The name Saturnia derives from the ancient legend according to which the god Saturn - in a gesture of anger and contempt of the level reached by human belligerence - threw a thunderbolt that opened a crater from which a source of hot and sulphurous water arose. The prodigious water calmed the souls of men and led them to live an age of peace and prosperity, a golden age, whose ruler was Saturn.
